Port Jefferson, NY  - August 30, 2002

a record 75 bowlers participated in the finale of the 2002 a2Z Long Island Summer Bowling tour this past friday night at port jeff  bowl. in addition to the record entry count, a record payout of over $2600.00 in prize, bracket and scholarship money was paid out to over 40 of the bowlers who participated.    

gary lindahl, ridge captured the third jewel of the triple crown as he won for the third time in the same house this summer on the a2Z summer bowling tour. lindahl defeated vinny zambito, shirley 233-219 to win the adult handicap division. all three championships have been won at port jeff bowl. it was also the second time that lindahl had defeated zambito in the finals. lindahl opened up the a2Z 2002 summer tour with a victory over zambito at port jeff on june 7, 2002. his other victory at port jeff was august 3, 2002. 

lindahl's son, craig lindahl, ridge, was also vying for a championship this past friday night as well. the younger lindahl averaged an incredible 243.75 in the 4-game qualifier to earn himself the #1 seed in the Junior Scratch Division. all that stood in the way of a championship for lindahl was to defeat amy bohleber, miller place, and it would have been the first parent/Child championship Night in a2Z history. bohleber however, one of the top female junior bowlers on long island decided to crash any party that was to be held over the labor day weekend celebrating a dual win. bohleber defeated tom scherrer, holtsville 212-210 in the semi-final game and earn a trip to the finals vs Lindahl. while lindahl appeared to be a bit tentative to start the championship match, bohleber came out swinging and won the match going away, 227-193. bohleber earned the top prize of $135.00 while lindahl cashed in on a cool $100.00 and scherrer pocketed $75.00 for the evening of work.

Semi Final game: Amy Bohleber, Port Jeff Station defeated Tom Scherrer, holtsville 212-210

Championship Game: Bohleber defeated Craig Lindahl, Ridge 227-193

 

Adult Scratch Division:  

Semi Final game: Keith Murphy, Islip terrace defeated billy deCicco, brookhaven 235-234

Championship game: vincent grzan, medord defeated murphy 256-204

                                  

Adult handicap division: 

Brackets Game 1: vinny zambito, shirley defeated leo marino, st james 197-170

Brackets Game 2: tommy genova, elmont defeated benny wong, port jeff station 223-184

Semi Final game: zambito defeated genova 205-183

Championship Game: gary lindahl, ridge defeated zambito 233-219

 

Junior hdcp division:

Semi Final game: heather mc Gee, port jeff station defeated matt kingsepp, ridge 162-125

Championship Game: cliff collazo, bayshore defeated mc Gee 188-141

Keglers Korner...........

Just a FANTASTIC way to wrap up the A2Z Summer Bowling Tour! A RECORD 75 entries along with over $2600.00 paid out in cash and scholarship dollars. A happy ending for sure!..... As mentioned, A2Z will be back next summer and some changes are anticipated. An earlier starting time of 7:30 - 8:00 we hope will make everybody happy and increase tournament participation. However, due to some houses that have been very loyal to us for the last two summers, the 9:00 pm starting may take place for those houses who cannot facilitate us at the earlier time. Also, look for A2Z to add a minimum of two houses next year..... A2Z will also be looking for sponsers to increase the prize funds/scholarships and have already started the process with some very eager business people who have acknowledged A2Z as a "very fine and well run" tournament..... A2Z also may run a tournament this winter around the Chanukah, Christmas and New Years Holiday. Although nothing yet etched in stone, we will email those who we have the email address for. Those those emails we DONT have, please use our CONTACT US page in this site OR keep on viewing our website for announcements..... The scholarship monies for weeks 7-12 will be available for those who need the funds by the 3rd week of September. All monies will be available at the ELIBA/LIJBA office in Bayshore for distribution to the school of continued education of choice. The monies for weeks 1-6 are already available.....BTW....for those who asked, SUMMERSLAM STUNK!..... One last question: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?! J E T S Jets, Jets, Jets!.....
