East Islip, NY - June 13, 2003

Friday the 13th turned out NOT to be so unlucky for the LISBT! A record field of 80 bowlers participated on stop #4 of the 14-week tour that covers as far west as Garden City and as far east as Westhampton! In fact, "records" turned out to be the word for the night. In addition to the record field, a record payout of just over $2300.00 was distributed. A record 25 scratch games were recorded over 250 by the field, 10 of those 25 for 275+! And if these records weren't enough, an LISBT bowler won for the THIRD straight week and for the SEVENTH time in the 2 1/2 year history of the LISBT. On top of all that, the SAME bowler broke the 4-game scratch record that was established just last week in Garden City!

Fasten your seatbelts.  

Mike Wodzinski, East Meadow is on fire. There are no other words to describe the zone he is in right now. Bowling in the Junior Scratch Division, Wodzinski won for the third straight week on the current LISBT and the title was his SEVENTH in the history of the LISBT. Wodzinski did not bother just to "show up" either. He averaged an incredible 253.75 scratch for the 4 game qualifying round highlighted by a 289 in game 1 and a 278 in game 3. Wodzinski set the all time high 4-game scratch series in the Junior Scratch Division with his 1015 (Vito Genova, Franklin Square set the record last week in Garden City). Patrick Cooley, East Islip, was left scratching his head and wondering exactly what happened last Friday night after Cooley averaged an outstanding 239.50 for the 4 games, spearheaded by a 280/958 in game 4, but still found himself 57 pins down! Steve Novak, Oceanside, 923 was another bowler who was "dusted" in the qualifier despite a front-10 288 in game 4. Noel Ocasio, Patchogue, (the Junior Scratch Divisions PRETTIEST finalist!), chipped in with a 257/876 to round out the field for the finals. Michael Levine, Dix Hills 258/859 and Vito Genova, Franklin Square 256/856 also had strong efforts for the night.

The semi-final round however turned out to be a treat. At the conclusion of the semi final game, when two bowlers would be putting the equipment away for the evening, it was Steve Novak's 234 that would earn him a trip to the finals vs. Wodzkinski. And just like Wodzinski had turned away Vito Genova the past two weeks in two very close matches (Westbury and Garden City), Wodzinski would show Novak the meaning of getting one extra strike. Novak's second consecutive 234 was impressive, as was Genova's 254 two weeks ago. Wodzinski however was thismuch better rolling a 244. Game, set and match to Wodzinski. Just phenomenal the zone this young man is in right now. All bowlers dream of getting into that zone, few accomplish it. Wodzinski's streak wont last forever, nothing ever does in sports. However, when it does end, it will take a special effort. He is not going to "give" it away. "Taking it" is a better choice of words.

Nice efforts (225+/800+) in the Junior Scratch Division were turned in by Tom Scherrer, Holtsville 246/853, RJ Gocinski, Coram 234/807, Corey Hirt, Mastic Beach 804, Louis Dalessio, Sound Beach 236, Scott Schultz, Northport 225, Nick Figueroa, East Islip 234, Christina Brush, Valrico Florida 236 and Cheryl Drusin, Holbrook 242. 

The Junior Handicap Division saw some nice bowling as well. Ryan Wiznewski, East Northport led the field after 4 games on the strength of a 256 scratch in the final game and an 877 scratch for the night! The 1081 with handicap was 20 pins better than Matt Kingepp, Miller Place at 1061. Kingsepp was very impressive as well for the night scratch. He rolled a 258 in game 4 giving him an 877 scratch as well. Placing third with a 1004 with handicap was Michael Komorowski, Mastic Beach.

In the semi final game, Komorowski edged a very game Kingsepp, 258-238 to advance to the final round vs Wiznewski. Komorowski maintained momentum in the finals as he easily defeated Wiznewski, 272-212 to earn his first title on the LISBT! Great effort all around.

Rounding out the action in the Junior Handicap Division (200+/800+) was Paul Nevadomski, West Babylon at 221 and Andrew Maglione, Bayport, 215.

The evenings closest division turned out to be the Adult Scratch Division. One pin played crucial roles for two bowlers effecting paydays for them. Craig Lindahl, Ridge was the qualifying leader with a 946. Frank Vuono, North Babylon was one pin back at 259/945. Jim Calamia, Centereach, came in at 279/941 while Paul Molnar, Commack rounded at the top 4 with a 932. Finishing 5th and one pin back of the cut was Alex Cavagnaro, North Massapequa 259/931 and cashing in the 6th spot was John Ciccarelli, Port Jeff 258/921.

The semi final game turned out to be a lop sided affair. Paul Molnar, a past EAST ISLIP  LISBT Champion must love the environment at EI. Molnar, 245 breezed to victory as Frank Vuono 202 and Jim Calamia 195 saw the night end prematurely. Molnar would go on to face Craig Lindahl in the finals.

Molnar was game to the very end. The talented Commack native was strong with a 225 in the championship game. However, it was Lindahl who came out on top and had that extra edge with a 256. Lindahl, bowling in just his first Adult Division LISBT took home the $225.00 first place money.

Adult Scratch Bowlers (250+/850+) for the night were Billy DeCicco, Brookhaven 277/912, Matt Traina, Farmingdale 279/904, Pete Bohleber, Miller Place 895, Rich Ambrosino, East Islip 258/895, Jess Figueroa, East Islip 279/892, Stacey Bokina, Peconic 882, Scott Cicale, Holbrook 878, Dave Collins, Holbrook 869, Scott Teitler, Patchogue 866, John Scarpulla, Smithtown 277/864, Ricky Papandrea, East Islip 255/862, Matt Sulzer, Bohemia 857, John Ramsey, Holbrook 258/851, Brian Nielsen, Levittown 279 and Eryn Cully, Patchogue 257

The Adult Handicap Division had some nice moments as well this past Friday Night. Scott Zochower, East Northport led the pack after 4 with an 886/1078 with handicap. In second was John Demelfi, Coram at 912/1048. Placing third was Ralph Marino, West Islip 863/1011 and rounding out the top 4 was Richard Arcas, Plainview 846/1002. Cashing but not advancing was John Kingsepp, Miller Place 838/982, John Yuknes, Farmingdale 677/973 and Heather Miller, Dix Hills 821/973.

The semi final match in the Adult Handicap Division turned out to be an exciting one. In the end, it was #4 seed Richard Arcas 222 just edging out Ralph Marino 216 and John Demelfi 213. Arcas however wasn't finished. The aggressive bowler from Plainview would jump out of the gate in the finals vs Scott Zlochower and would leave him at the starting line. Arcas would go on to defeat Zlochower, 274-220 to win his first ever LISBT event.
