babylon, july 2, 2004

arthur ryan, selden and vito genova, franklin square are perhaps just two "holiday type kind of guys". on the other hand however, when the stakes rise, count these bowlers In! the two competitors now have two major titles under the belt on the A2Z/LISBT tour!

ryan and genova both won their respective divisions this past friday night at babylon lanes for the 5-game fourth of july holiday weekend kickoff tournament. ryan, competing in the adult handicap division defeated joe prozor, lindehurst to earn his victory while genova, competing in the junior scratch division defeated anthony pepe, jackson heights that gave him a title as well.

the two titles however have a significance. both bowlers won on new years day 2004 during 2003/04 holiday bowl II, also held at babylon lanes! With the victories, ryan and genova are halfway to the "grand Slam" for major victories on the A2Z/LISBT tour! the two bowlers will get the next chance to win a "Major" on the A2Z/LISBT during the Labor day Weekend Holiday kickoff 2004 on september 3, 2004 at sayville bowl. They will however have to wait until may 2005 to compete in the 4th major on the lISBT, the memorial Day Weekend Holiday Kickoff.

in other action this past friday night at babylon, joey serrapica, lindehurst had just enough gas in his tank to defeat ed hawkins, west islip to earn the adult scratch championship. the right-handed hawkins was the recpient of a terrible break in frame 9 of the championship game as he left a "Stone 9" on the left lane. serrapica needing just to mark in frame 10 left no survivors. the very talented left-hander nailed 10 in the pit on his first shot in the 10th that shut hawkins out for good.

while serrapica walked out of babyon lanes a champion this past friday night, ed downey, brooklyn walked out very happy as well. downey threw 12 straight strikes in the final game during qualifying that earned him an additional $130.00 for the night! with the 300, downey jumped ricky papandrea jr, east islip in the standings, giving downey an opporunity to bowl in the shotgun round (Hawkins eventually defeated downey and matt cabble, miller place in that game). all in all however for downey, with his placement money, bonus dollars and bracket money, one could say ed downey had a fantastic night and a well deserved "take" for his effort!

equally as impressive in regards to the three champions just mentioned, how about the performances of the bowlers that came out of the junior handcap divsion this past friday night?!

brad loeffler, commack, pat scotti jr, hicksville, ryan kase, deer park, jason cornacchio, shirley, rober baculy, mastic beach and peter briguglio, massapequa all hit the 1000 mark scratch during competion for the 5-games. when all was said and done however, jason cornacchio would leave the building as number one for the night. cornacchio started out of the gate in fine fashion during the championship game while loeffler simply may have just wore down with the extra qualifying game for the night. however, whether loeffler did or did not tire out, it should be noted all the competitors of this division were simply marvelous this past friday night and deserve all the credit they can get.

For some "points of interest" stuff, while a2Z does keep track of scoring records and such, we do not have an official stat site/book for items that should be perhaps mentioned. with that in mind, a2Z believes we had the youngest bowler ever to compete in an A2Z event on hand this past friday night in adam zimmerman, deer park, all of 5 years old! adam, entering at the average of 94, simply had a tremendous time on the lanes and he pounded the pins as well! Zimmerman averaged just over 106 for the five games and placed 16th overall! talk about "Whos your daddy!". Jeez! the young man was simply marvelous and an inspiration to watch.

If we have over-sighted someone in regards to the youngest ever to compete in an a2Z event, we are very sorry and will be more than glad to mention that particular bowler. for the time being however, adam zimmerman, all of 5 years old, kept up with the big boys while he competed! You just cannot help smiling taking this stuff in.

THAT....our bowlers and friends..... is why we do this in the first place!

:o)

thats if for now! See ya next week at east islip lanes!

Keglers Korner...........

the junior champions of the night, jason cornacchio and vito genova were presented with hand painted "Spirit of the fourth of july" trophy pins courtesy of adult scratch bowler frank kase, deer park. needless to say, steve "A" and Poppa "Z" were simply blown away by the two pins presented to us for the purpose of giving the "kids" something to celebrate the victory as well as the holiday weekend. A truly nice gesture by a truly nice gentleman..... Kudos to Rocky Point Bowler Bob Andrestta for singing the National Anthem prior to the start of the tournament this past Friday night. Great Job Big guy...great job!.....hard to believe, time flies too fast, however, A2Z will be celebrating tournament number 50 on july 30 at farmingdale lanes! we do plan to have a "Cake" and "goodies" on hand for the festivities! who would thunk! 50 tournaments. we certainly hope to be around for at least 50 more! the only down side to that would be just think of how ugly Steve "A" will be at that moment in time! Poppa "Z" though will still be as good looking as ever! What a treat!

Until Next Time.....

Steve A and Poppa Z! A2Z Bowling! The LISBT!
