A note from "The Prez"
It is hard to believe that 5 A2Z seasons have been completed, with the
conclusion of the 5-game "MAJOR" at Farmingdale this past Friday night. The
LISBT has grown into something beyond Ken's and my wildest dreams...our first
idea was a summer tournament for juniors to keep the kids bowling while the
JBT and the LIBYT were on a summer hiatus. Well, thanks to the support and
assistance of many people, we have accomplished our goal and then some!!!
This summer we had 1927 entries ( an average of 137 bowlers per tournament)
and scholarships and cash prizes totaled nearly $89,000 with $14,452 in
scholarship dollars for the Junior bowlers to use for post High School
education ! Poppa Z and I communicate several times every week, and the
operative phrase is "This is crazy!"
I hope it is evident that we enjoy being the co-directors of A2Z (Abrams &
Zagorski) and that we attempt to make each and every Friday night better than
the last one...it is getting tougher, but the numbers don't lie. To
paraphrase actress Sally Field - "They like us; they really like us!" Our
objective isn't to be liked, but we sincerely appreciate the comments made by
many of you that pat us on the back, whether you cash or not.
All of this could not happen without the many folks that are in the
trenches:
The proprietors and staffs of all 14 houses, who have welcomed us each
week...
The "runners", who write down the scores and get them to the
computer...
Donna Z, who with nimble fingers, enters all these numbers...
Wendy D, who collects your entry fees and separates the "prize fund"
into those little yellow envelopes...
AND MOSTLY, YOU, THE LOYAL BOWLERS, WHO HAVE TRAVELED THROUGHOUT NASSAU
AND SUFFOLK AND HAVE BEEN PATIENT WHEN WE'RE A LITTLE BEHIND ON STARTING TIME
OR HAVE A FEW MORE BOWLERS ON EACH PAIR THAN WE'D REALLY LIKE (TURNING PEOPLE
AWAY IS NOT SOMETHING WE LIKE TO DO).
So, it has been a great ride and we will make every effort to meet your
needs as we get ready for season 6...THANKS TO ALL!
Don't forget the "FALL CLASSIC" coming to East. Meadow on Sunday, October
23 at 1:00pm...
LIBYT will have the kids and we'll have the "big kids"...two tournaments in
the same house at the same time...
Until we meet
again...
