So much for the "Long Island" Summer Bowling tour! Two yonkers adult bowlers made the trip out east to port jefferson well worth the while as they took home top honors in the adult scratch division and the adult handicap division.

Starting off with A2Z Major Event champion ( Farmingdale 2005 ) Billy bertuch, yonkers competing in the adult scratch division, bertuch Broke out of the gate in game 1 throwing the first 10 stikes en route to a 288 and simply never looked back. even with his low game of the night, a 226 in game 3 of the 4 game qualifying round, bertuch still managed a back end 804, highlighted by a perfect game in game 4 that easily put him into the number 1 seed 71 pins ahead of the number 2 seed, hometown competitor pat palicastro, miller place. palicastro would survive the one and done elimination game and get his chances at bertuch in the finals. its a good thing palicastro actually rolled a 265 in the championship game as he cut down the margin of victory to a respectable 24 pins. when you add it all up, bertuch never lost his momentum and rolled a 289 to earn the victory for the night. on some nights, there are times when you think only one bowler can win an event... and on this night, bertuch simply was THE man. Great job.

just to make sure bertuch didnt have bragging rights on the long drive home, kandace little, yonkers also had her share of things go her way as well. little edged out howie levine, old bethpage by a single pin to gain entry into the playoff rounds of the adult handicap division. this past friday night and from there, she took matters into her own hands. little disposed of kristian norhein, commack and theresa castellano, centereach in the shotgun round then took control of the championship game in the middle frames over top seed chris torres, ronkonkoma and put in on cruise control the rest of the way. little certainly has a big game and will be heard from again before the season is over.

christopher holzman, shirley survived a four bowler shotgun round as he defeated RJ Stephani, patchogue, joe giampapa, lindenhurst and hunter heppner, Ruby to gain entry into the championship game in the junior handicap division. waiting in the wings number one seed danny singer, hollis hills is certainly no stranger to tournament competition as singer is a veteran of the A2Z tour along with a very healthy resume on the LIJBT in the winter months. however, as we stated above, on some days, it is just going to be your day as holzman edged out singer to be the top dog on this evening.

in the junior scratch division, two bowlers, frank giordano, farmingville and dan brezo, coram were attempting to meet for the second straight finals event for the summer of 2007. while brezo did his job by finishing as the top seed in the four game qualifying round, giordano fell a bit short in the shotgun game as darren andretta, rocky point squashed those hopes. in addition to eliminating giordano, andretta also said good bye to steve ammirati, holbrook during the process. andretta and brezo headed to the all lefthanded finals. andretta got that extra hit he needed along the way in the championship game and the final score read 244 - 215 advantage andretta.

there you have it. week number 2 in the books for the A2Z LISBT 2007.

Keglers Korner..........

The family discount incentive is already a big hit with the bowlers. Saving what you can these days is just about a must everywhere you go. A2Z is seeing that firsthand as many junior bowlers are being joined by Mom or Dad or Both! Also, lets not forget sister and brother. It really is a treat to see families getting together on the lanes and competing at the same time.... Credit long time Vinny Zambito, Shirley as he was on the ball to notice A2Z will be celebrating birthday number 6 this week at Coram. Six years to the day, June 8, 2001, Coram helped get A2Z off the grond and it is fitting that we can celebrate ourbirthday this coming Friday together. Funny how things work out. A2Z originally was slated for Coram this past week, but at the request of Port Jeff in April, we needed to sway the two dates with Coram. Not once, did Steve "A" or Poppa "Z" reallize during that entire time that June 8, 2007 would be birthday number 6 for A2Z... kid you not.... Vinny done good eh? No official celebration will take place however, as A2Z has designated tournament number 100, also to be held this summer at Coram, as its milestone event.
